BIG UPDATE

Life has been hectic in the London Calling camp recently so an updated post is needed.

Firstly, I would like to publically thank all the band that played Running Riot Fest. Thank you to all the people that paid to get in too.. it was an awesome yet stressful weekend. Plans for next years even are already underway so keep the 24th and 25th October 2009 free!

TRC have released their first video for "Define Cocky". Its awesome. Check it out.

Finally, Deal with It have announced that they are to split. They will be playing in Cardiff and plan on announcing their last show soon. The band will be missed.

Update.. Running Riot Fest

Wow. What with the summer fest season finally over, and the final preperations for Running Riot Fest coming into play, I can finally update the site.

The fest itself has been tarred with problems in booking bands. So many bands have pulled out due for various reasons.. tours being booked in America at the same time, bands splitting up, and the worst of all, the credit crunch fugging with me so bands simply can't afford to come over..

But I think the line up that we have ended up with is pretty sweet.

We are happy to announce that No Turning Back (www.myspace.com/noturningbackhardcore)have been added to the bill.. To be fair, this band played so many of the past Ninjafests, that it simply wouldn't be right for them not to play the first name change fest.

We are also happy to announce Teenage Lust (www.myspace.com/teenagexlust) from Belgium. They were awesome at the two day fest in colchester earlier in the year and a welcome addition!

Essexs very own Special Move (www.myspace.com/specialmove) have also been added, due to popular demand.

and finally, the UKs own Deal with it. With their brand new release on... it seemed a shame to not include them on the bill.

As the fest is basically a new fest, the three year rule isn't coming into play and is probably going to be scrapped altogether..

I am going to also include, every year, the break band.. if you were at last years Ninjafest, you will understand what this means. There are two breaks during the day.. one in the early evening and one later on in the night.. They are generally put there so that the staff working at the underworld (stage manager, sound dudes, etc), get a break, and also so that noone has to miss bands when hungry.

During the second breaks, with no sound/lighting people, there will be some special bands playing, guaranteed to be super entertaining, so don't run off super quick. It will be something not to miss.

Finally, we all need to remember what Ninjafest was originally about.. it was never about getting the biggest bands in hardcore today, which, while it does happen, to me anyway, it was more about getting smaller amazing bands names out there.. Just look at the past line ups on the Ninjafest myspace and you will see.. so please, go and check out the bands you haven't heard yet, as i am positive you will be pleasantly surprised.

The fest, as you know, happens in 3 weeks on the 25/26 October... Tickets are onsale now (from the usual outlets and in person from the worlds end)and it is looking good to be another sold out year.

EXTRA STUFF TO KNOW:

There is a pre show the night before. This promises to be absolutely amazing with Dirty Money and Dead Swans on the bill and Honour Among Theives playing their last ever show. It will be held at the underworld and tickets are onsale at the same outlets. Unfortunately, to all the kids that have been emailing, the pre show is nothing to do with me, so the ticket sales are seperate from the Running Riot weekend tickets.

On the friday night, everyone is sticking around the underworld to dance to some cheesy 80s and 90s pop at Pump Up the Volume.

The after party on Saturday is being sorted out as we speak. It looks like it is going to be at Sin club in Tottenham Court Road. Your day wristbands will get you in for the reduced price of £5.

Thats about it.

Get your tickets now to avoid major disappointment.

Ps. I would appreciate it if there are any crack junkies outside the venue, to leave them alone and don’t give them any attention. Last year, having to deal with the police was stressful and a waste of my time. You should be there to watch bands, not to taunt the junkies of Camden.
Also, if they decide to turn on you and stab you, that’s your own fault. Just ignore them and they will walk away.

WOW. Super LATE update. LONDON HARDCORE NEWS

Wow. I am sorry I have been so slack but I just started a new job so I havent been able to keep up with updates. So one great big one now and I will be updating weekly from now on..

RUNNING RIOT FEST
The first line up for Running Riot Fest (AKA the fest formerly known as Ninjafest) has been released. Mosey onto the fests Myspace to see who is playing. We have about 7 bands to confirm so hold tight.

HONOUR AMONG THEIVES
Unfortunately, Honour Among Thieves, after just signing to GSR records, have decided to split up. They will be playing two more shows, one at Deadfest and the final being the RunningRiotFest They will be terribly missed. The band released this statement:

"sadly, due to personal differences within the band, we are breaking up. it sucks more balls than a thai whorehouse, but shit happens. we're all pretty bummed out about it, but there's nothing that can be done, decisions have been made and that's just the way the cookie crumbles. we're all still on good terms though and there's no bad blood. sorry to disappoint, but there's no drama here ...

however, we're not going out with a whimper, we have plans:

we WILL still be playing deadfest in sweden on the 13th of september
(we've already paid for non-refundable plane tickets, so we might as well).

we WILL record the songs we had written for the full length. this
might be released as a swansong ep, but if not we'll just throw them up on myspace.

we WILL be playing a final show, what would've been our album release show. here's a stopgap flyer:

we're stoked to be playing with our favourite UK bands one last time. if for some reason you don't already know and love all of these bands, please please please take a minute to check them out, they're well worth your time:

http://www.myspace.com/thedirtymoney
http://www.myspace.com/thedeadswans
http://www.myspace.com/fastpoint
http://www.myspace.com/morethanlifehardcore

we WON'T be playing any other shows, and we're withdrawing from any shows we have booked aside from the 2 mentioned above. unless of course someone with a lot of money wants to fly us back to russia for a final russian show, we'd be open to that, but anything else ain't gonna happen.

It's hard having to live with yet another failed ambition, another broken dream. but that, ladies and gentlemen, is the game of life. things may not have worked out, but at least we tried, and we enjoyed the ride. a lot of people have done so much for us over the last year, putting their faith and money into us, letting us stink their apartments out, book us shows or just stand there and listen. we appreciate it more than you will ever realise. We made a lot of friends in the short time this band existed, and we will never, ever, forget.

Some of us are working on different projects already, so you can be
sure you'll see us again at some point.

In the meantime, keep yourself busy:

London Calling Highly recommends the following bands.. .

Cheat To Win (UK)-
This band played their first London show at Facedown fest at the dome roughly a year ago. Watching them, the thoughts that entered my head were "this band are incredible.. so tight for a band that have just gotten together" and "his voice reminds me of the dude from Mentals but the music is thrashier". If you are a promoter, PUT THIS BAND ON. Give them a listen.. And someone to tell them to put "shark infested waters" back up on their myspace and tell them to play it live again. Thanks.

The Ice (Germany)-
There are certain european bands that do things right. Every country in europe has them. We have it here with Knuckledust and, I would say, Dirty Money, Holland has it with Born From Pain for the tough guys, No Turning Back for everyone else (heh).. Belgium has it, in some peoples eyes, with Justice and Germany have it with Black Friday 29.. They can now add another band to this list. The Ice are one of the most talked about bands in West Germany at the moment. I could give you the schpeel and say "if you love the cro mags etc etc, listen to them" but im not going to. Oh. I just did.

Cheap Thrills (Germany)
-
This band played the 12bar with borrowed time last autumn, and totally blew everyone that was there watching away.. With an energy that is severely lacking with a lot of hardcore bands of the moment, the band mix old and new school hardcore effortlessly.. They are touring next month with solid Ground from Switzerland (playing the Underworld on 18/03). Check them out if you can. You will not be disappointed.

Living Hell (US)-
The hype behind this band first reached these shores last Ninjafest. Bands from America were all talking about how awesome they are. While the band arent doing anything groundbreaking, what they are doing is absolutely incredible. Not in a long time have I been left wanting more like I have with this band.

Homicidal (US)-
Featuring ex member of Bulldoze/Crown Of Thornz/ Conspiracy and Hatebreed. Thats all I have to say.

Blood Stands Still (US)-
This band are just finishing a European tour with Furious Styles and Your Demise.. featuring members of Donnybrook, the band were one of the most talked about on the tour package after they played London.. if you like Death Before Dishonor, check them out. One of the most highly recommended on this list.

RIP The Break In

The Break In, from Kent, have decided to call it a day, releasing this official statement:

"This is the end...
As of January 2008 The Break In are no more.
At the beginning of the month Dan Frye decided to leave the band. The rest of us feel that due to him being the only remaining original member, it wouldn't be right to carry on as a band without him.
We'd like to take this chance to thank everyone who has helped us out over the years.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust... "

They will be very much missed.

Dirty Money.....

Congratulations to Londons own Dirty Money who have made it into two major publications this month.

Firstly, Vice (there is a bigger image on the forum, where you can read what is written underneath):

And secondly, Metal Hammer:
