Summer never ends

Deep into Summer 2010, and fest season is in full swing. This week, im going to feature the three that I think are the “must go tos” of 2010

Filled with Hate Fest (including ticket giveaway!)
Filled with Hate records, a German independent hardcore label, has some of the hardest bands on its roster. Their annual fest, being held in Essen, Germany, on the 6th and 7th August, features some of these bands and some added extras. This incredible line up includes Slapshot, Shattered Realm, Next Step Up, and the Essex’s own Special Move. 2 days of the most brutal bands held in one of the best venues in Europe.

If you would like more information, please go to:
http://www.myspace.com/filledwithhatefest

I will be giving away a pair of tickets to the fest (this does not include accommodation or travel) on Saturday 24th July on my show. To find out how to listen, please go here:

Sonisphere:
Not one to support the bigger, corporate events in the rock and metal world, this time its different. Sonisphere hasn’t been around for long, but has featured some of the biggest bands in the Metal/Hardcore/rock world.
This year, Sick of It All will be playing alongside some of the best metal and rock bands around, including Motley Crue and (ahem) Papa Roach. Saturday is the only day worth going to, to be honest. If you want to go to a fest that covers the whole spectrum, this is for you.

Ieperfest
There is one fest that I attend, every year, without fail, and that’s Ieperfest. This is, by far, the best hardcore festival in the world, and the best open air festival around. I say it every year, but the atmosphere is electric, and everyones needs are catered for, from the vegan food served everyday, to the “afterparty” held on Friday and Saturday night for the kids who want to keep going. The line up is always incredible with this year being no exception. Agnostic Front, 7 Seconds, Madball, and Converge all on the bill along with an array of metal bands such as Dying Fetus and Black Dahlia Murder. If you have to choose one fest to go to this year, go here..

Lionheart Clothing

Whilst stood in Germany at Bringing Back The Glory, I noticed a dude in a fresh black letterman jacket, with white sleeves. After telling him I was going to steal it, he informed me that the jacket was made by his friends and that they were going to have a table at the fest. I cornered the guys later on and asked them about it.

Lionheart is a label fresh out of Germany. With the sickest jackets, hoodies, caps and shirts, this label is definately one to keep an eye on. Their website alone promises great things.

This month, LionHeart Clothing is sponsoring my show on Totalrock. Listen in to find out how you can win some gear.

Sick Of It all return with a corker of a new album!

Now, whilst this blog is mainly aimed at UK Hardcore happenings and shows, there are a few instances where this rule is broken.

One of these instances is when Sick Of It All release a new album. Out NEXT WEEK on "IScream Records", "Based on a True Story" is, by far, the best album you are going to hear in 2010. If you were lucky enough to see them recently on the AFI tour, or at their headlining shows on their days off, you will have heard a couple of the new tracks, including one of the standouts, "Death or Jail".

Luckily for you, the band have decided to kindly stream the whole album on their myspace.

Limited Edition copies of this album will feature a live DVD.. Pick it up from Play.com. Amazon.co.uk also have the vinyl version in stock.

The band have also recently announced that they are to play Sonisphere this summer.

I can't bloody wait!!!

Reunions...

Voorhees. "Spilling Blood Without Reason" Line up. Leeds Joseph Wells. 24th April. For a fucking FIVER. If you aren't excited about this show, then you should really question why you are into hardcore really.

Unbroken are playing in London. Whilst the excitement level for this show should be way higher, considering this is the first time the band are playing the UK, and its one of their few reunion shows, it has been damped by the ridiculous £25 (including booking fees) charge for 6 bands.

But, you know, its Unbroken. So whatever.

Dirty Moneys Last show/ Dead and Gone RIP

A hardcore show selling out the Camden Underworld is pretty unheard of in this day an age . Selling that many tickets for a “UK with a few euro bands” line up is simply unbelievable. But Londons very own Dirty Money have done it, in the record time of 24 hours. . This news is bittersweet though, with not only this being Dirty Moneys last show, but the end of the line for Dead and Gone Records.

The news comes as a HUGE blow to hardcore in the UK, as the label was simply one of the best not only in the UK but also Europe. Releasing, over the years, awesome bands such as Down and Outs, Deal With It, The Last Chance and Ironclad, the label had the right idea.

Ian Wiles, Creator and Owner of label, released this statement:

A TBC D&G 40 will also be out at this show and that will be the final release for Dead & Gone Records. The label has travelled some distance but has gone as far as it can be taken. I started this to co release the LP from my first band which was a split release with Alex @ Zandor. I never had the intention to do any more releases as that was a bit of a disaster! Then came along The Last Chance, The Legacy, The Break In, On Thin Ice and Spitfire Down. It was an exciting time for UKHC and we got right caught up the middle of it and it was a great time. Thanks to Max for the first few years.
Then through touring with The Last Chance I made friends with Justice, Black Friday '29 and everything just took off from there. Record after records followed and we have worked with some great bands. I remember how proud I was listening to 'Boys From The Blackstuff' for the first time and thinking how proud I was to release it and my friends made it. Bands came and went but the last few years have been amongst the best working with DEAL WITH IT, DING, DIRTY MONEY and more. When Dirty Money decided to quit it made sense for me to follow suit. A lack of time and money has made things harder and harder to maintain. A shift in priorities brought on by becoming a father brought reality into sharp focus. It has been a blast but it’s now the turn of some exciting new labels to pick up the baton and do great things. I have the memories and a pretty decent legacy so I have no (t many) regrets.

Thanks to all the bands, promoters, graphic designers and all my mates for the support. We have done some amazing D&G showcases through the years and this will be the best. Thanks to Justice for coming out of retirement, it means the world. May 29th. Come and hang out.

Both Dirty Money and Dead and Gone Records will leave a HUGE hole that will be terribly difficult to fill.

Please come out and say your final farewells in May.
